Congratulations to our outstanding students who have been recognized across the region for their leadership, scholarship, and athletic excellence. This spring, several of our young leaders were honored for their academic rigor, artistic talent, and dedication to community service. We are incredibly proud of these students and the positive impact they continue to have on the Somerville community.

Scholar-Athlete Honors

April was a significant month for our dual-threat students who excel both in the classroom and on the field. On April 27, the Skyland Conference celebrated its scholar-athletes with a luncheon at Maggiano’s Little Italy, where Merrin Vespucci Paxson and Nathan Vroom were honored for representing SHS with distinction.
Two days later, the Somerset County Principals Association and the Somerset County Interscholastic Athletic Association hosted a dinner at The Bridgewater Manor. This event focused on the county’s Scholar-Athletes of the Year, where Domingo Louis Gatti and Kaylee Lauber were recognized for their exceptional combination of athletic performance and academic achievement.
NJPSA Student Leadership Scholarship
The New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association (NJPSA) held its 28th annual ceremony on April 29 at the Forsgate Country Club. This scholarship is highly competitive, recognizing exceptional graduating seniors for their initiative and influence within their schools. Among only 25 recipients statewide, Emily Smith was selected for her strong record of leadership and her unwavering commitment to the SHS school community.

Branchburg Rotary Club: Junior Service Award
Finally, we celebrate our community-minded students. On Thursday, April 30, Mrs. Bradley of the Branchburg Rotary Club presented the Junior Service Award to Valentina Spagnolo and Brandon Stitt. Both students were honored for their leadership and the generous use of their time and talents in local volunteer efforts. Their actions perfectly reflect the Rotary motto: “Service Above Self.”
Way to go! Your hard work and dedication continue to inspire us all.
