Want to know a little more about the staff at Somerville High School? Look no further! This article takes you through a typical day in the life of history teacher Mrs. Shannon Strunk.
Mrs. Strunk’s day in life starts by waking up for every school day at 5:00am. When asked about how she feels about waking up at that hour she simply stated, “I hate the mornings.” While some pick their outfits out the night before, Mrs. Strunk choses hers in the morning and then proceeds to wake up her dog Henry. Transitioning to breakfast, Mrs. Strunk has her morning coffee with hazelnut syrup, 2 sugars, and milk, along with most commonly eating yogurt or oatmeal. After breakfast, she drops off her two daughters and son at their bus stop. Her daughters love to stay involved in sports, both playing club or high school volleyball.

Soon after, at 7:15, Mrs. Strunk arrives at school. Her routine and classes differ based on which day it is, but some things never change. Every day her husband packs her lunch, which is usually a salad.
Mrs Strunk’s day is never the same, especially when it comes to juggling a varied schedule between A and B days. On A days she teaches U.S. 2 CP classes followed by study hall and lunch whereas on B days the rhythm changes entirely as she teaches U.S. 1 Honors a majority of periods. Each day brings a mix of different subjects, making for a busy day and dynamic routine. When asked what makes her day better, Mrs Strunk replied by saying, “I like to have a routine because if I get off routine I am out of sorts.”
Once school is over, Mrs.Strunk spends her time “running around her children” to all their activities. When it comes to her favorite meal, dinner, she plans out her meals on a board to stay organized. For example, some things on this week’s menu at Mrs. Strunk’s house are barbecued chicken and mac & cheese. After a long day at work, Mrs. Strunk winds down by binge-watching TV or reading. Currently, she is watching the Netflix thriller series Yellowjackets and reading the book Sandwich by Catherine Newman.
In getting to know Mrs Strunk further, she shared that one of the most popular questions she gets asked by students is what products she uses on her signature curly hair. She revealed that she uses LolaVie leave-in hair conditioner, Moroccan oil, and a Revlon air brush dryer to master her hair routine.
The truth is, the question does not just illuminate a smile on her face, it also is a testament to the genuine connection she shares with her students. The simple act of noticing how great her hair always looks speaks volumes about how much love the Somerville High School student body has for Mrs Strunk.
