It’s time to tuck away those hats and gloves as the freezing grip of winter finally gives way to the warmth and sunshine of spring. Say farewell to icy roads and early sunsets—soon, the crisp air of winter will be replaced with blooming flowers and longer, brighter days. After an especially harsh winter, the months of December through February are now behind us, and the sudden rise in temperatures has students at SHS buzzing with excitement. The arrival of spring seems to be reigniting their spirits, inspiring them to tackle school and extracurriculars with renewed energy.
To kick off the season, SHS celebrated SEL Day on Monday, March 3rd, and Tuesday, March 4th. Every year, students look forward to these special days dedicated to Social and Emotional Learning.

Carol Gurney shared her experience, saying, “I had so much fun playing

Just Dance in the Media Center with my friends. We couldn’t stop laughing!”
But the fun didn’t stop there—SEL Day was packed with a variety of activities, from coloring and games to some much-welcomed furry visitors. “It was amazing to play with dogs during a school day,” said Valentina Jimenez. “It gave us a nice break from everything.” Therapy dogs Jeter and Lucky spent time with students, providing some necessary stress relief. Overall, SEL Day gave students a chance to pause, recharge, and focus on the importance of emotional well-being.
With spring fever in full swing, SHS students are looking forward to all the season has to offer. For instance, when asked what she was looking forward to most in spring, Gabriella Charne stated, “I’m excited to get to play lacrosse outside in the warm weather, after having to practice inside. I’m also looking forward to being active and being a part of a team again.” To add on, Brynn Closterman shared, “I can’t wait for flowers to grow and to leave school without a jacket. I always feel much happier in school when it’s warm, and I can go outside with friends.”
Spring is right around the corner and SHS students are READY for spring. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings us!
