Entering the new school year has been outstanding for students and Somerville High School athletics. With a wide variety of sports from soccer to cross country, girls’ tennis, football, and field hockey, all teams have been soaring through the fall season with flying colors. Currently, the Somerville football team’s record is 7-0 after demolishing many teams such as Summit, Montgomery, Hillsborough, and hopefully more to come. Brenden Pacheco, the senior QB, has a total of 1016 passing yards along with star running back, Terrell Mitchell, with a total of 791 rushing yardage. Aiming to keep their winning streak going, the team faces Plainfield and Watchung Hills next. As of now the girl’s tennis team is standing at 5-13 while the girl’s field hockey team is 4-10-1. This is the first year that Coach Spolarich is the head coach of the field hockey team and she has led them to multiple victories such as a 9-0 win against Franklin! Furthermore, the girl’s soccer team is currently at a 5-6-2 record while the boy’s team is 5-9. On the girl’s team, Kaylee Lauber, a junior forward, is leading the team with 14 goals while on the boy’s team the junior, Denis Music, is leading the team with 10 goals. Great job pioneer athletics and keep up the good work!
