The Emmys took place on September 14, with the shows The Pitt and Adolescence dominating this year‘s wins, much like the shows dominated viewers’ minds.
Launched on January 9th, 2025, the Max original, The Pitt, created by R. Scott Gemmill has captivated viewers since its release, introducing a new realism and uniqueness into the medical drama sphere. The Pitt is a fast-paced show that takes place in a Pittsburgh Hospital, displaying a day’s shift in the emergency room. The Pitt puts a focus on how medical emergency professionals deal with both their work lives and personal lives, all the while having patients’ mortality in their hands.
Unlike most other medical dramas, this series displays accurate depictions of being in emergency medicine and practicing in a hospital while simultaneously maintaining the dramatic aspect to entertain and inform its viewers.
In a CBS interview, The Pitt‘s medical consultant Shylvia Owusu-Ansah explained that in order to maintain a level of accuracy in emergency medicine, physicians like her were on set at all times. Owusu-Ansah also notes in her interview how great it was to work on the set of The Pitt and the ethics of its creators.
“It’s just incredible how accurate they are, how intentional they are, and how they really acknowledge our medical expertise and take that, and that’s what’s made the show what it is today,” Owusu-Ansah said.
The Pitt was nominated for a total of 13 Emmy nominations this year and won 5 of them, making it one of the more successful shows of this year. The show’s wins included Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Noah Wyle), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Katherine LaNasa), Outstanding Guest Actor in A Drama Series (Shawn Hatosy), and Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series.

The Max show has a diverse range of viewers- ranging from medical professionals to high school students. The show’s addictive and speedy scenes and its depictions of crises leave its viewers on edge.
Somerville High School student Isabella Scherr, ‘28, shares “oh, I love the Pitt! It deserved all the Emmys it got, it’s amazing”.
Overall, this Max show is popular and successful for its informative and educational content. It’s clear from both its professional and unprofessional reviews that it’s a great watch.
Additionally, at the 2025 Emmy Awards the British drama Adolescence, directed by Philip Barantini, won several major awards, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
The show also picked up awards for acting, directing, and writing, making it one of the top winners of the night. Notably, 15-year-old Owen Cooper became the youngest actor ever to win an Emmy for a supporting role in his category.
The show stood out for its unique approach, with each episode filmed in one continuous take, which impressed critics and Emmys voters alike. Overall, Adolescence earned about 13 nominations and took home multiple wins across key categories.
Adolescence is one of the most intense and emotionally heavy television series out right now. It follows a 13-year-old boy named Jamie (Owen Cooper) who is arrested for murdering a classmate. From there, everything in his life unravels; his family, his school, and his entire community are forced to face serious issues like toxic masculinity, the dark side of social media, and how quickly things can spiral for teenagers.

The show’s unique filming style makes the viewer feel like they’re right there in the moment, but may also feel slow for those used to fast-paced shows. Still, the series is worth watching, if even just for the acting, which blew audiences away. Owen Cooper’s performance is unbelievable, especially for someone of high school age. Cooper plays a character who’s both confused and terrifying, and you’re never quite sure how to feel about him.
The limited series is strongly recommended for people who like dramas that deal with real issues and leave you thinking afterward. Fair warning: Adolescence is not fun or light, and some scenes are genuinely hard to watch. If you’re into feel-good shows or need something relaxing, this may not be for you. Deep and haunting, Adolescence is 100% worth your time.
This year’s Emmys had many great hits- making history and showcasing truly impactful shows to a wider audience. Both The Pitt and Adolescence are celebrated and successful shows that are totally worth a watch.
