In March, the Somerville High School girls basketball team wrapped up their 2025 season with a big swish. With an impressive record, they made it to the semifinals and finished the season at 23-6. The starting lineup featured Charlotte Taylor, Riley Desarno, Amaya Miller, Kaylee Lauber, Lily Taylor, and sometimes Kelsey Butler. It was exciting to watch them run up and down the court, working tirelessly to score.
Part of what made this season exceptional was the commitment of the senior players, who have been dribbling and shooting since they were little. Charlotte

Taylor reflected on her journey, saying, “My parents put me in all different sports, but basketball was the one I liked the most.” Taylor reached a career milestone this season, scoring 1,000 points in her high school career. The entire team celebrated the moment, and the game even paused to recognize her achievement—undoubtedly one of the most memorable moments on the court. Although the seniors had a fantastic season, it was bittersweet as they now prepare to say goodbye.

Junior Amaya Miller also had an outstanding season. According to NJ.com, “Amaya Miller scored a season-high 22 points and added six rebounds, four assists, and four steals in a win over Bridgewater-Raritan. She then finished with 15 points, five rebounds, five steals, and two assists in a win against Science Park. In a victory over Immaculata, she recorded 19 points and two steals, as Somerville won its seventh straight game.” For those unfamiliar, the Skyland Conference is a New Jersey high school sports association that includes 22 public high schools across Hunterdon, Somerset, and Warren counties (NJSIAA). Amaya is looking forward to her senior year and is eager to continue making an impact.
The seniors made it clear that they are proud of themselves and one another. Over their four years in high school, they built strong bonds, with some having grown up together since childhood. They also served as great leaders for their team.
Although the girls fell short in the semifinals, they had an incredible season. We wish the seniors the best as they head off to college, and we look forward to seeing juniors Amaya Miller and Kaylee Lauber return next year, ready to work harder than ever for their senior season!
